WWI Reflection
Essential Questions:
1) What types of forces cause historical change? (Hint: Think about what we learned in the WWI unit. What aspects of WWI changed the world? What causes war to start?
WW1 happened between July 1914 and November 11, 1918. The reason why WW1 happened is actually because of the three factors, which are imperialism, militarism and nationalism .Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries and control them. France and Britain had control of large areas of Africa. Unfortunately, no country did imperialism better than Great Britain. Imperialism caused a conflict between the European nations. Anyway, another reason is the Militarism, it’s the development of building up of a armies and navies for competition. Between 1803-1914 there were 48 wars fought in Europe. During this time, European would spend large amount of money to build up armies for the next war. German had a huge army group and the British and German had the best navies. Finally, the last factor is nationalism, it’s a strong feelings of pride and loyalty for a country or culture. People are proud of their country and would fight for their country. Nationalism caused the WW1 because it led up the power of the countries including Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Russia.
On 28 June 1914, the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo directly causes the WWI. The Black Hands killed Franz because they disliked Franz ,he’s Austro-Hungarian and the gang are Bosnian, it’s an effort to gain Bosnian independence. Indeed, there are 2 military alliances, Triple Alliance and Triple Entente. Triple Alliances was on May 20, 1882. Germany, promising these countries will support each other with military alliances in case of a war. Eventually, the purpose of the agreement was "essentially defensive and conservative," but it did not take long for the worldwide war to sweep over the continent after its agreement. Anyway, there’s another alliance called the “Triple Entente”. It was created 3 years later after the Triple Alliances, there’s are countries joined to the alliances including Britain, France and Russia. These newly joined countries expected to succeed a “excellence isolation”. The Russian government. was concerned about the increasing the size of Austria-Hungary’s empire. Therefore, it made promises to help Serbia, if it was attacked by the members of Triple Alliance.
Unfortunately, the WWI aspectly changed the world’s nations, casualties on an unprecedented scale and it also caused the fall of colonialism and the fall of empires, and the rise of communism. Obviously, the first major war of the world would be the most memorable event in history.Therefore, the WWI changed the politically, economically, and socially. The four major empire ended, which means that the politically changed in German,the Russian,the Austrian and the Ottoman. Currently, the economy of britain have improved because of the WWI. Lately, the US replaced Britain to considered as a dominant global financial power.
After the WWI, the women have chances to vote for the first time in many countries, due to the war effort.
2) How does what we learned connect to the real world?
I learned about the WWI in this lesson. Particularly, in this unit I learned was mostly about the causes, the Warfare, Treaty of Versailles and Russian Revolution. Anyway, this unit that I learned about was connect to the real world as the WWI happened in 1914 and it’s the major event in the history of the real world. This war have affected the real world in economic, political and socially.
