Reflection#2:Probability

1)What were your overall feelings about this project?

My overall feelings toward this project was challenging and interesting, there would be an problem when its come to fairness of the game, creating a challenging project . When the game seems to be fair for us, but the player’s side’s not fair enough, having us adjust and change the game to make it more fair for both side. Even though, I find it interesting when we can play along with the player’s mind. The player might think that the game was giving them advantages to win but actually they’re wrong. If they didn’t think deep about the background of the game , there would be less probability to win and more chance to lose. Players would think the total probability of the is ½, but actually it’s ⅛ because there are 3 dice. Mostly player would think that putting only 1 baht is a little amount of money, but when it come to losing, they would lose their own money without any thinking.

2)Did this project help you understand probability any better?

Yes, it really improve my understanding about probability. I found out how the game work with probability, calculating probability, and analyzing.

3)How did your group work together?

Kong, Mia and I have been working together and giving each other ideas and opinions. We decided to choose between the idea of choice of number the player chose(ex:if the player chose number 2, then all 3 dice must show all number 2 to win) and another idea was all odd or even numbers. Consequently, our group chose the “All Odd or Even”. We all help each other on each question. Kong calculate the probability of the game and I helped giving ideas and choices.

4)Relevance:

What have you learned about “Fair Games”?

I have learned that the “Fair Games” should be fair for both side(player and home), it must not be too obvious for the player to recognize the tricks and technique of the game. The game maker must think deep and use technique from probability to make the player thinks it fair enough. I’ve learned that calculating probability can make the game fair.

What is your opinion about Las Vegas and gaming industry?

My opinion about Las Vegas and gaming industry is interesting, when it come to this kind of gaming, the excitement build up with the player hope.

Do you think it’s fair to have establishments designed for people to lose money?

No, since the players are accomplishing nothing, it's impossible for the fairness of the player to have more money than they get or the home will get more money than the player have. Somebody has to lose, so somebody else can win.

What is your opinion on the lottery?

My opinion on the lottery could be exciting with betting the outcomes of the lottery, you have to figure out by yourself of the next probability outcome.

Would you advise your grandmother to play?

Yes, everyone can play and have more opportunity to win if they have the knowledge of probability. I would only advise my grandmother to play when she comfortable calculating probability and have techniques.

What do you think about gaming casinos?

I think that gaming casinos could be fun and challenging sometimes. But sometimes it could be feeling regret and stress if you lose the game. There’re lots of background in these game, tricking players.
