Unit 7: DNA to Proteins
1)Essential Questions
-
Is everything we are in our genes?
No, because we don not inherit personal thoughts, religious, destiny, and name from our parents. Genes only contain personal information for physical and genetic traits. Particularly, we aren’t 100 percent our genes because when you were growing you were developing skills that was not caused by genes. Furthermore, genes does not control our bodies. We are the one that developing by ourselves. For an evidence, the offspring does not act the same way or thoughts as their parents. They do not inherit thoughts and personal skills from their parents. Additionally, gene’s role is to create proteins too to make us grow.

How does DNA make out traits?
DNA make out trait by protein synthesis. DNA is the molecule which controls the synthesis of proteins. There are 2 parts of protein synthesis, which are transcription and translation. First was the transcription, the DNA strands start to unwind. Second, the A pairs with T and G pairs with C. The growing strand hangs freely as it transcribed. Then the DNA strand close back together. Finally the last step when the whole strand has been transcribed, the RNA strand detaches from the DNA. Next it move to the translation stage. The tRNA anticodon pairs with the mRNA codon. Bringing it very close to the other tRNA molecule. Then, the ribosome forms a peptide bond between the 2 amino acids and breaks the bond between the tRNA and its amino acids. Last, the ribosome pulls the mRNA strand. The result is the protein was made.

How do we know about DNA?
We discovered about DNA from scientist. There are several scientist that conclue about DNA by analysis and experiment. For an example, Griffith, he injected a S form into a mice and the mice died. Only the S form will kill the mice. After that, he injected a heat-killed form and R form into a mice, the mice died. He thinks that S heat-killed form is transfer into R form that killed the mice. Griffith called it “transforming principle”. For another example about the DNA structure that the scientist discovered was Franklin, he use X-ray to show that DNA was 2 stranded.
2)How does this connect to the real world?
This connect to the real world because there are several scientists from the real world that discovered about the DNA and proteins. DNA and protein happened in the real world everyday. Organism contain DNA to inherit to their offspring. This is how the real works with population and life.
