Mural for Samrong Nursery

• Our Goal

We are planning to volunteer to paint a mural for the charity called “Dream of a Future”. This charity provides numerous opportunities for the children of Klongtoey who are living in an extreme poverty and may have very difficult home lives. “Dream of a Future” organizes and funds the Home of Praise Kindergarten, Immanuel Day Nursery, Home of Praise Afternoon Activity for Youth, and Immanuel Music School. However, We’re interested in volunteering to paint a mural that represents education for Samrong nursery across Bearing since it has the least school environmental surrounding.

The School environment is important for students because it will affect their motivation for creativity and learning. Anyway, the reason that keeps me motivated to design a mural is because I’m confident with my art skills and this is the chance to engage in more community services. Also, this project is beneficial for the children of Klongtoey and will help to improve their school environment. But, I do have concerns about managing this community service project, such as the confirmation of allowing me to paint their walls and how can we fund for paints and supplies.

• Why is it important to have an inviting & educational environment for the children?

Children’s knowledge and creativity were affected by the layout and design of the physical environment in their schools, especially the nursery since it is the stage where the child develop creativity and skills. Statistically, the University of London found out that children who spent three or more years in nursery were able to advance their academic attainment by up to a year over those who did not attend nursery. Partly, a high standard of school or nursery environment can have a positive influence on children’s performance. So, it is important to have an inviting environment for children because it can stimulate their enthusiastic in education, the distraction from depressions and negativity themes, and it build children’s critical thinking. The Effective educational environment is relevant to children as it motivates children to explore and learn. Negative themes environment can impact children’s health because it can give them depression and fear if their environment seems to be not really inviting.

Especially the Immanuel Day Nursery needed to improve because it still has an unlikely inviting environment. Hence, it can impact the children’s health, they might develop depression from previous memories. Most of the children who attended to this nursery tend to go through difficulties in their family. A child’s development is directly affected by interacting with the school/nursery environment. Children develop “learn it yourself” through their interactions with surrounding materials, colors, and design.

-Will the Immanuel Day Nursery in Bearing like my design for mural painting?

-Will we fund enough money for the supplies(paint)?

-Will we be successful?

-Which wall do they need improvement?

-The size of the wall?

• Predictions:

My plan is that I will first contact the Immanuel Day Nursery for permission to paint their walls. Secondly, once permission is given, I will inquire with Mr. Joe (my school’s art teacher) for more ideas and inspiration to design the mural, once I collected all the ideas and inspirations, I will start designing a rough sketch on a piece of paper. After that, I will send my final design of the mural to the nursery to get feedbacks. Then, we will talk to the student council about helping to fund the purchasing of paints and supplies. When all the paints and supplies are ready, I will visit the Immanuel Day Nursery and paint the mural on their walls.

-But, if the permission to paint a wall at Immanuel Day Nursery is not allowed, then Natalie and I still have the option to design a mural for Berkeley International School or funding donations for the charity.
